Who Even Is An Exchange Student???
I have been in Argentina for 100 days!! But I have not been an exchange student for 100 days.
Or at least in my opinion, because I became an exchange student on Friday December 27, 2024 at 12.24 AM, when I received an email telling me I'd officially been accepted into the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program. It was actually an incredibly underwhelming email, but nevertheless my exchange student journey had begun. But I'd been tirelessly working on my exchange application for much longer than my acceptance date, so did I not become an exchange student before I even submitted my application? Because just by submitting my first required document, just by opening the application portal I became more of an exchange student than any of my friends. And I actually was very hopeful and referred to myself as an exchange student around the time I submitted my application, about November 24, 2024. So I'm not really sure how long I've been an exchange because honestly I've been one spiritually since I was around twelve. And in all honestly Im so horrible with numbers Im not one hundred percent sure it's even been 100 days in Argentina. But I really wanted to highlight the immense amount of laborious hours my family and I spent on me being an exchange student, both before and after I actually arrived in Argentina, thank you very very much mummy and daddy. But then I owe gratitude to so many more people than simply my mother and father, right? To everyone in Rotary and Rotex who answered my many many emails, and everyone who interviewed me, and the rotarians who accepted me. But then it's actually so many more people, like the doctors who did my many medical exams and vaccines, and teachers who wrote my recommendations, and the literal FBI and that lady Susan from Dunleavy's office. And really the people who actually helped me the most emotionally were the current exchange students in my city, and district, who taught me that French people may not be so bad, and gave me invaluable opinions and insight. And it's kind of funny because there were actually so many unfathomably unhelpful people throughout this whole experience, but really that makes me so much more grateful for all the people who did help me and talk to me and support me. So truly from the bottom of my heart I have so much love and respect for everyone, and it did really surprise me how many people it takes to send one innocent girl to live in a different country for a year.
I will definitely cover more of the whole exchange process and everything I had to go through before I could even leave later because I think that would be interesting for you. Maybe?? I think so! But I just wanted to reflect on the whole 100 days thing. Ok and I promise I will also talk about Argentina sooooon!
